The NPS and Equestrian Websites regret that this website has been down for the last few days
Published in: Miscellaneous on: 21 May 2008

The following statement has been issued by Equestrian Websites:

Between about 7.05am and 8am on Monday 19th May the Equestrian Websites offices at Bargoed, which also house a small data centre, suffered 3 consecutive power cuts, which included a low voltage power return and probably a power surge at this time. The result of these problems, which also impacted the surrounding area, was damage to an uninterruptable power supply as well as taking several servers offline. We managed to get most of the servers back on-line by about 8.15am but the virtual server for the National Pony Society website and the NPS database could not be brought back on-line and at this stage the original server may be out of action for several more days.

Once we realised that it would not be possible to get this server back on-line quickly, our main priority was to get the NPS database back on line as quickly as possible. To this end we installed a new temporary server at Bargoed and, using a backup made the previous day, installed the database on the new server. The database was available to the NPS office ready for the start of business on Tuesday 20th May.
Following considerable effort, the NPS website was live on the new server early afternoon on Wednesday 21st May .
We apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused but the original circumstances were beyond our control and I can assure you that we used our best endeavours to rectify matters as quickly as possible.

Valuable lessons have been learnt from this and we will be taking steps over the next few days and weeks to ensure that we are more prepared in the event of a similar disaster so that any possible future downtime will be kept to a minimum.
