PREFIXES
A prefix is a name chosen by a breeder which is used to prefix the name of all foals bred and regsitered by that breeder and may also identify the breeder's stud.
Prefixes must be registered with the Central Prefix Register (CPR). If you want to check who owns a prefix or check to see if anyone has already registered one that you want to use you can look on the Central Prefix Register website. There is a link to this under Resources at the foot of this page. The initial registration of a prefix includes registration with one society, but an additional fee is then required to extend the prefix for use with other societies.
Prefixes being used to register ponies with the NPS must be registered with the NPS as well as with the CPR. This applies to registrations involving overstamping of Breed Society passports as well as registrations involving the issue of an NPS Passport.
For more information please see the Prefix Rules and Regulations document that is a Resource at the foot of this page.
How To Register a Prefix
New prefixes can be registered through the NPS which works closely with the CPR. Please use the New Prefix Application Form which is a Resource at the foot of this page. The fee is £100, this includes the initial registration with the CPR and registration of the prefix for use with the NPS.
If you have already registered your prefix with the CPR through another society and just want to extend it for use with the NPS please use the Prefix Extension Form which is a Resource at the foot of this page. The fee is £20.
