All colts registered in the Baseline must be gelded by 2 years of age. The Registration of a Baseline Colt will become invalid if this rule is not adhered to and the Equine Passport will be recalled for re-issue as a Non-Registered Equine Passport.
The progeny of unlicensed stallions are not eligible for registration.
General Criteria for registration
In all cases:
- the breeder and the owner must sign the Registration Application Form
- a service certificate or parentage test result must be provided unless the sire and the dam were owned by the same person and that person signs the form in lieu of a service certificate
- the sire and the dam must be in the correct ownership unless a loan/lease has been lodged with the NPS
Stud Book - Criteria for Entry
To be eligible for entry into the British Riding Pony Stud Book, Register, Appendix or Baseline the pony must have been born in the United Kingdom and must have some proven native pony breeding in its pedigree.
British Riding Pony Stud Book - Criteria for Entry
- The sire and dam to be registered in either the British Riding Pony Stud Book or Register, the main section of one of the Mountain and Moorland Stud Books, the General Stud Book, or the Arab or Anglo Arab Stud Books.
- The sire and dam may not both be registered in the General Stud Book, Arab or Anglo Arab Stud Books. (There must be some verified native pony breeding)
- The sire to be licensed (Stallion Licence number to be stated on the application form) or to possess an approved Veterinary Certificate as being free from hereditary diseases, as applicable to certain Mountain & Moorland Ponies and Thoroughbreds in excess of 15hh, or be listed as an HIS Life Approved Stallion.

British Riding Pony Register - Criteria for Entry
|
The criteria are the same as for BRPSB registration except that the ponies need only have one generation of proven acceptable registered pedigree. The female progeny of AMR mares may expect to be registered in the British Riding Pony Register, providing they are by a registered, licensed, acceptable stallion. British Riding Pony Appendix Mare Register - Criteria for Entry Female progeny of an Appendix Mare by a registered, licensed, acceptable stallion are registered as Appendix Mare Register (AMR). |
|
British Riding Pony Appendix - Criteria for Entry Fillies, mares and geldings will be considered for registration in the Appendix. colts are not eligible. The sire must be registered and licensed as for the BRPSB but the dam may be unregistered or known by name only. Colt foals from Appendix mares can not move up from the Appendix in the way that filly foals can, and they must be gelded before they are eligible to go in the Appendix. Entry may be restricted to the Appendix if the sire or dam is a part bred and not registered with the NPS including overstamping the part bred passport. Overstamping can make it possible to get the offspring registered in the BRPSB or the Register. Ponies in the Wetherbys Non Thoroughbred Register (NTR) are considered as unregistered. british riding pony baseline - criteria for entry This section of the Stud Book was opened when it became compulsory for the NPS to register all ponies that were offspring of ponies already in the British Riding Pony Stud Book, even if they did not meet the Stud Book registration criteria. The sire and the dam of Baseline ponies must be registered in the British Riding Pony Stud Book, Register or Appendix. Baseline ponies are not generally considered suitable for breeding purposes and are not eligible for showing in NPS Riding Pony classes. There are two main reasons why ponies would be put in the Baseline: 1) They are colts and their breeding makes them only eligible for the Appendix . The Appendix is only open to mares and geldings so colts are put in the Baseline until gelded then upgraded to the Appendix. All colts registered in the Baseline must be gelded by 2 years of age. The registration of a Baseline colt will become invalid if this rule is not adhered to and the equine passport will be recalled for re-issue as a Non-Registered equine passport. 2) The Stallion is not in possession of a recognised Stallion Licence or Veterinary Certificate. The stallion has not therefore been vetted for breeding purposes and has not been vet checked for congenital or hereditary diseases. Note: The female progeny of a Baseline mare may expect to be registered in the British Riding Pony Appendix if it fulfils the NPS Registration criteria for the Appendix. The progeny of a Baseline colt may never be eligible for registration in the British Riding Pony Appendix and will always remain a Baseline pony. A Baseline gelding will always remain a Baseline animal. How to Register a pony in the British Riding Pony Stud Book A Registration Application form should be completed, the form is available as a Resource at the foot of this page.
